USB Wireless adapter problems
« on: May 04, 2007, 03:27:31 am »

I have a Netgear WG111v2 USB wireless adapter which I am trying to get up and running on my VL 5.8 SOHO RC2 box.

I have followed the instructions in "Wireless Networking : Read this first"  -and I have successfully installed the Windows XP driver from the Netgear website into ndiswrapper as well as editing the appropriate files as instructed

Unfortunately I am unable to link up with my wireless router and I would be grateful for any advice you can offer.  Below I have given you some of the relevant outputs

root:# cat /etc/modprobe.conf
# /etc/modprobe.conf (old location for Linux 2.6+ config)
#
# The use of this config file is deprecated if you are using a
# 2.6.x or newer kernel.  Instead, create files in the
# /etc/modprobe.d/ directory containing modprobe options.
#
# For more information, see "man modprobe.conf".

I hope the above outputs are helpful - I am uncertain as to wether I have correctly edited the ifplugd.comf file.
Again thanks for any advice :)

Thought I should give you these outputs from  ifconfig and iwconfig to see if they are any help

root:# ifconfig wl0 up
wl0: ERROR while getting interface flags: No such device

root:# iwconfig wlan0 channel Auto
Error for wireless request "Set Frequency" (8B04) :
SET failed on device wlan0 ; Invalid argument.

Just a note to update - problem was solved by replacing the Win XP driver with Win98 driver.  Used the Vector wireless utility and now works perfectly - I'm very happy with Vector Linux  - thanks to all the developers.
