I am having trouble with VL 5.8 not being able to pick up my TSST CORP/DVDW SH-S182M..   Windows XP, Sabayon Linux  Ubuntu 6.10 detect it just fine. As a matter of fact I installed VL 5.8 with this DVD-RW.

VL 5.8 will Detect my LITE-ON  DVDRW SOHW-1693S, but the problem is a bit more complex than than.  VL 5.8 will detect both the TSST and the LITE-ON depending on which one I have set as the Master drive, but wont detect either one if they are set as the slave.  In other words something in the settings in VL 5.8 is preventing me from having a master and a slave drive, I can only have a master drive and again  Windows XP, Sabayon Linux, and Ubuntu have no problem detecting both DVD-R drives.

I'm not really sure what addition information i need to post but here is the fstab file

                                     # CDROM, CDWRITER, DVD

The fstab isn't really important. What comes up in dmesg?

Sorry it took me so long to respond, but I dont really need to worry about the SH-S182M DVD-R anymore since it got damaged in a mishap, so thanks for responding Hanumizzle.
