It's the well-known 'favorite apps questionnaire'. We haven't done this one in a while, IIRC. The last time we did, soren mentioned mpd and ncmpc, which I found to be pretty useful. (I wonder where he got off to anyway...) Anyway, my list: | Editor | GVim | | Typesetting | LaTeX | | File Management | bash | | Browser | Firefox/Opera | | IRC | XChat | | AIM | Gaim Pidgin | | Terminal | Terminal (with GNU screen) | | Window Manager | Xfce (Maybe going back to wmaker) | | Media | mplayer | | Image Viewing | Mirage |
Why am I being a hypocrite for failing to mention mpd? Well I just think mplayer is best overall. It plays my FLV files from YouTube. mpd + ncmpc is the best playlist-based music app though, even if it doesn't cover some formats I've used. Opera appears to use less memory than Firefox over time, but I can't be quite sure yet. It seems snappier, subjectively, but acts weird on some sites.

My current KDE install consists of just kdebase + kdegraphics and their dependencies. arts is evil so I turned it off. I also killed all animations I could find(like the bouncing icon when you start a program). I would use kopete instead of gaim / pidgin and stay QT, but I can't really figure out kopete's way of dealing with IRC.

Most of those apps understand the vi-like keys. I use mplayer as it was a client-server app, so maybe I should give mpd a try.

Me too (while in SOHO), but I can't get it to work with jabber SSL conections. It just won't work with the qca plugin.

Editor vi / gvim * Typesetting Abiword File Management thunar Browser opera (it fail on execute some javascript still the best) IRC XChat / Seamonkey AIM Gaim Terminal Terminal Window Manager Xfce / Fluxbox Media mplayer / VLC Image Viewing GQview / Mirage * my first linux box was a very old machine with no x, I am used to vi, a hanu post gave me gvim, but look extrange to my eyes, will replace vi in a few weeks, when I get used to it. Abiword, is probably the best office app in the linux world! Do all the job with minimal resources, just like I like. PS: Jose: Como haces las dos columnas tan derechas? PS: Jose: Como haces las dos columnas tan derechas? Joe: How do you make those colums so rigth? Hehe, I cheated... . I quoted The Headacher's post and edited the table columns. Then cut and pasted it above the quote. Try clicking on "quote" for his post (or mine) and you'll see what I mean...

Information keeping tool: Basket 1.02stable (yes,we need to upgrade 0.6-this is a major bugfixer) Bittorrent client: azu, ktor, utorrent+wine(works perfectly-not a glitch)

Editor: Emacs (usually in terminal) Terminal: XFCE Terminal File Manager: bash Window Manager: XFCE Media: I don't care as long as it plays Browser: Firefox Word Processor: Still looking for something like the old school AppleWorks. I hate OpenOffice and Abiword.
Beyond this, there isn't any type of application I use frequently enough to even qualify as having a favorite.

AppleWorks: What distinguished that? There may be something similar.

| Editor | Vi Improved / Kate | | Typesetting | Don't use one currently (In the terms of LaTeX) | | File Management | Konqueror | | Browser | Firefox primarily with Opera as a strong second. SeaMonkey just doesn't "do it" for me: I like the themes in Firefox and several extensions I use weren't available in SeaMonkey at the time of my last time checking. | | IRC | Konversation, X-Chat is a strong second. | | Instant Message | GAIM - Guess I need to give Pidgin a try | | Terminal | Aterm | | Windows Manager | KDE | | Media | VLC Media Player | | Image Viewing | Haven't done this yet | | Image Editing | Xara Xtreme / GIMP depending | | Office Suite | OpenOffice.Org | | Mail Client | I haven’t found one I like yet. I want to give Evolution a try, but I’m not sure we have it yet. Oh to have time to play… | | HTML Editor | Quanta Plus (Part of kdewebdev) | | Bit-Torrent | Azureus (I really wish uTorrent worked with Linux | | CD-Burner | Haven’t done this yet | | Things I’d like to see | OneNote Equivalent |
There we have it. By the way, that’s BBCode, not HTML. So, what’s an Information Keeping tool, Blurrymind?
