install debian packages?

hey guys,

last month I bought a subscription to transgaming cedega, downloaded the .deb package and used that to install on my old ubuntu distro. However I've decided to give vector a try since then. I really dont feel like dropping more money on renewing that subscription just to get a package that's compatable with vector, since the games I play ran perfectly fine on the older 5.4 version.

is there anyway I can use that same .deb package to install cedega into my new vector linux system?

You would need to use alien to convert the .deb to a .tgz package. Once the conversion is done, you should be able to install the package as though it were a regular slack package.

Yes. But avoid installing .deb packages if possible; issue a request in New Package Requests instead.

I've read that there is a tgz file available to download from transgaming that would suite your needs better in this case, however slackware systems (VL being a derivative would likely be included in this category) have additional depencies that need fullfilling to get it working.  Have a read here: http://downloads.transgaming.com/files/Cedega_6_Quick_Start_Guide.html

Scroll down to the 'TGZ' section.  The dependencies listed are: x11, wget, python 2.3 (or later), gtk2, glade 2, python gtk2 bindings, python dbus bindings.  Some of those may already be covered on a VL system

Most of them are except glade. Glade is probably going to be a royal pain in the butt though...

Oops, didn't know about Cedega. 

Anyway, we already have libglade. If glade the UI builder proper is needed (doubtful), then that can be compiled trivially without Gnome.
