Never more!

« on: May 18, 2007, 07:19:25 pm »

When I try to install VL 5.8 Standard from live CD, the process goes only so far as the screen with the silly penguin.  There it sits.  Going nowhere. Frozen.

How can I find out what the errors are, and then be able to trouble-shoot the problem?

Is there some combination of key strokes that will get me out of the frozen penguin install screen, and to the command line so I can look at the config files?

Computing Machine:
Dell Dimension 4600; 2.4 Ghx; 3 Gb RAM; NVIDEO GEForce4 MX440 AGP8x Video; 80 Gb & 300 Gb drives.

uelsk8s:

Thanks for the reply.

You are correct.  It happens while booting, and I can never get to a desktop.  The boot process just freezes while the pic of the penguine is sitting there. I feel that it may be a video problem, but it does it on my Dell w/NVideo Geforce4  7400 card.  It also does it on an AMD 300 Mhz chip machine with undefined video on the motherboard that I put together in 1997.  That machine has 128 Mb of memory, and the Dell has 3 Gb of RAM.

I have tried two different downloads, and two different CD burn operations.

Any suggestions?

Hello,
I had the same problem as raven. My laptop on which I tried to boot the Live CD is a Toshiba Satellite 3000, 512MB Ram, 30G, 1.2Ghz and Nvidia Geforce 2 Go video.
I did try what you, uelsk8s, suggested to raven and I got this message:
could not find kernel image: vector (When I typed "vector cli" at boot prompt)
also
could not find kernel image: cli (When I typed "cli" at boot prompt)
Does this give you any ideas?
Thanks,
Yobo
