i wanted to record a pci waveform file using the rec tool of sox. i wanted to record the sound that was being output from soundcard. one website gave the command usage example as:

$rec -d /dev/dsp test.wav

i do seem to have a /dev/dsp which is a link to /dev/sound/dsp but which device is this...how can i select the output of soundcard....and i do want to hear it too when recordin....so i know which part i want to keep...well this is secondary....i'd try gettin a workin solution for the first problem.
