I read a recent topic about the transition from win to linux, and some members of this forum suggested start installing some Open Source Apps on Win to see how the users reacts. I though could be nice to have a thread about nice open source apps that can run in Windows, so we can help to people who wants to do a migration. I start: My favourite os app for win is cdrtools frontend, I think is the best burning tool avaible! Bad for me, there is no Linux version. http://cdrtfe.sourceforge.net/And of course, Blender http://www.blender.orgIf you know about anothers, please tell us!

Indeed. I've been using SeaMonkey, OpenOffice.org and Gaim on Windows for years now. The Gimp also works pretty good as a Photoshop replacement.

Obviously, OpenOffice.org and Firefox. Thunderbird for e-mail. SeaMonkey. Opera isn't open source but it's free as in beer and cross platform. It works the same in Windows and Linux and can even use the same e-mail files and many of the others (address book, notes, bookmarks, to name a few).
The Gimp has a Windows version. So does Scribus. AbiWord has a Windows version. XnView--I'm not sure it's open source. I *think* Inkscape has a Windows version. Audacity.
I haven't used most of these in Windows, just Linux. However, if we're talking about transitions to Linux, switching to these programs under Windows is a help because they are just about the same in Linux. --GrannyGeek

Oops, thanks newtor, I'd forgotten vlc, which really blows everything else away in Windows with regards to playing stuff others fail on. Just needs a bit more ui work, lol.
