Moody Chestnut-dialer
« on: June 09, 2007, 10:57:16 pm »
VL-5.8-Gold

I can open the chectnut-dialer only as su. Not as sudo and not as usr. If I try that and do ps aux I get:

peter     8533  3.8  2.2  22312 10880 pts/0    S+   14:49   0:00 /usr/bin/python /usr/bin/chestnut-dialer

however, no chest-nut dialer shows up.

Terminating the program with ^c I get:

chestnut-dialer: warning: interrupted by signal 2
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/bin/chestnut-dialer", line 21, in ?
    import chestnut_dialer.main

    app = mod.Application(ui_params)
  File "/usr/share/chestnut-dialer/chestnut_dialer/gtk2_ui/application.py", line 49, in __init__
    chestnut_dialer.application.Application.__init__(self)
  File "/usr/share/chestnut-dialer/chestnut_dialer/application.py", line 43, in __init__
    self.share = chestnut_dialer.share.Share()
  File "/usr/share/chestnut-dialer/chestnut_dialer/share.py", line 72, in __init__
    if not is_session_server_running():

    return wait_session_server()
  File "/usr/share/chestnut-dialer/chestnut_dialer/share.py", line 16, in wait_session_server
    f = open(filename, 'r')
  File "/usr/share/chestnut-dialer/chestnut_dialer/main.py", line 120, in signal_term
    app.exit()
AttributeError: 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'exit'

Any idea how to fix this that beside su, usr can open chestnut-dialer?

Regards

hmm, no takers.

Well I solved it now somehow. With mc I got into ~/.chestnut-dialer and there were quite a few of those files in black letters and 0 bytes as one can find them in /tmp/orbit-user.

I deleted them all and chestnut-dialer burst-out of its trance when invoked as a user.

Where would those "black files" come from and why do they prevent the program from opening?

I've had essentially the same problem today, but I rebooted and started again and it righted itself. Not really sure how.

Yes, I had this erradic (moody) behaviour. Chestnut-dialer would open and then not anymore on second or third attempt. This time it failed for too long so I posted this thread.

I will keep an eye on those "black" files once the problem starts again.
