where exactly did you get pyobject and pycairo from?// I know I've built these before, but I can't find the source code anymore, and I can't find the packages in extra either..

Moe, they are in the extra repo, IIRC: vector://home/easuter root:# slapt-get --search pygobject pycairo pygobject-2.12.3-i586-4vl58 [inst=yes]: PyGObject pycairo-1.4.0-i586-4vl58 [inst=yes]: PyCairo

I can't find them... I know I got pycairo, but not pyobject
NEVER MIND:
This is weird though... They are in the gnome directory, but slapt-get can't get them (at least for me)
But in either case, after installing both of these, I'm still unable to use it

Can you run wifi-radar from the command line as root and post the error you receive here? There is a problem invoking wifi-radar with the new version of gksu. The problem appears to be gksu, not wifi-radar. That's the next one I'll be posting about after doing a bit more testing this evening. -Cait

That was the error I received before installing pygobject. You are certain you have that installed on your system, right?
You have access to the contrib directories, don't you? Try pulling wifi-radar 1.9.8 from mine and see if the error is the same. I never did try and get 1.9.6 working correctly once I knew the package had to be rebuilt for new dependencies.

I was able to track down the problem to a situation where I had 2 versions of python installed
I removed both, then reinstalled just one after that, I also noticed 2 versions of wifi radar installed, so i did the same procedure as step 1 after that it works but only if I call it using gksu.
If I call it directly from a terminal as root, I get a segmentation fault error.

Well... at least you have it working. eauster said he'd try to get to wifi-radar 1.9.8 today. Hopefully he'll have the time and you can try that. I can start it both from a terminal (as root, of course) or with gksu and it works properly. In fact I'm on my lunch hour now and using it at a free hotspot I've never used before Great app, isn't it? -Cait

1.9.8 has more configuration options. It solved some issues for me. I wanted to build it in any case but the breaking of 1.9.6 made it urgent. Anyway, please try it and let me know if it works for you. Somehow I think if anyone is going to find something wrong with my package it will be you. I'd like to be certain I've got it right.
Thanks again, Cait

did you upload it yet?I just moved your package to testing... Here is what I found http://www.vectorlinux.com/forum2/index.php?topic=3315.0Pretty much the same thing... it gets me a seg fault when called as root, and now a permissions error when I call it as user, but it still works if I call it as gksu wifi-radar

Thanks for moving the package to testing. I responded with some thoughts re: troubleshooting your issue in the new thread you linked to. I think the issue is now a permissions issue on your box rather than a generic wifi-radar issue with the 1.9.8 package.
Thanks for all your effort on this.

Caitlyn, I've just tested your wifi-radar package and its working here. Me likes version 1.9.8 Anyway, only one thing to point out is that the .desktop menu file included with the wifi-radar package tries to use "gksudo -S wifi-radar" to get root privileges, instead os "gksu wifi-radar". I can fix this for you if you like since I'm going to start moving the packages.

eauster, I appreciate the offer but I still had my working directory intact. I've just uploaded build 5vl58 which has the corrected .desktop file to my contrib directory. You can use that and save yourself the effort.
Thanks, Cait
