mouse pointer turns black after game

Sometimes, I am demonstrating VL 5.8 Std to a client, and after I show Frozen Bubble, or maybe Xine or VLC playing a DVD, afterwards, the mouse loses all color and is totally black, reminiscent of an infected Windows system.  I can restore the original appearance of the mouse by logging out and back in, but the client wouldn't be favorably impressed if I did that, so I try to ignore it. Is there a quick way to restore the mouse's appearance?

Could be a weird xfce bug, but never seen it myself. You might want to check your ~/.xsession-errors file and see if there is anything in there to give you a clue, and failing that look at your /var/log/Xorg.0.log file. Best also to check the xfce forum to see if it has been reported by anyone else.

Why don't you set a keyboard shortcut to: "xfdesktop --reload" ?

IMHO that is not the best solution, look at your logs X or XFCE is failing somewhere.
When the problem is fixed there is no need for a work around. Setting up
refresh desktop just to shadow a problem is a windows approach, forget the
problem kludge a work around.

The way this works is there is the X server, then the WM/DE that sits on top
of that. The core, mouse,screen and keyboard are from the X server not the
WM/DE. To the basics of it all everything from the GUI runs as a command.
The other way to test something is to run the command from CLI and
watch the output or pipe it to a file.

Probably has to do with color inversions when mouse changes from pointer to "I" cursor or to black skull (Ctrl+Alt+Esc). Probably involves installing a better ATI driver.
