070613 - Avidemux revision 5vl58
« on: June 13, 2007, 07:54:18 am »

The first Avidemux package made for the VL repo was built against Seamonkey's JavaScript engine. However, in the newer Seamonkey releases the JavaScript library name changed, so the Avidemux package was broken and has been removed from the extra/ repository.

There is a fresh Avidemux build in the testing repo, that has been built against XULRunner's JavaScript engine instead of Seamonkey's.
This package should solve the missing libmozjs.so library errors.

Its probably best to use slapt-get/GSlapt to download this update because of the new dependencies it has.

Post feedback about this package here.

Thanks for the feedback veki.
That output you are getting in your terminal is normal. Looks like the avidemux team made sure there would be lots of debugging info if anything went wrong.  :)

hello,

yes, I know that it is normal but I just wanted to post you fully on output so you may be sure that maybe package is ready to go in regular use instead of testing only.

Thanks,

I have a fresh install of VL5.8 standard and the newest package of Avidemux from the repository.
http://vectorlinux.osuosl.org/veclinux-5.8/testing/x-apps/avidemux-2.3.0-i586-5vl58.tlz
The old package worked fine but this is not connecting to a library

Code: [Select]
avidemux2
avidemux2: error while loading shared libraries: libx264.so.54: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I have looked around a bit and discovered libx264.so.54 is also required by MPlayer. Since MPlayer works fine the library must be present. But when I try

Code: [Select]
locate libx264.so.54
nothing is returned. Where is libx264.so.54?

I see a libx264.so.56 but no libx264.so.54.
Code: [Select]
/usr/lib/libx264.so.56
After reading about MPlayer being fussy over which version of this file it needs I decided to change the name of libx264.so.56 to libx254.so.54. Avidemux now works! But unlike the snippet I read earlier so does MPlayer. I know ffmpeg also uses this library so I am going to keep 2 copies of it in /usr/lib/ with different names.

A symlink will do... ;)

I know I should be embarrassed to ask this, but how do you make a symlink?

ln -s realfile linktorealfile
ln -s /usr/lib/libx264.so.56 /usr/lib/libx264.so.54

Thanks uelsk8s.

I did that but the package still does not perform the same as the previous one.

The buttons on the left side run into the file display area and it cannot properly play files I created with the previous Avidemux package. It plays the file but playback is jerky. The file plays fine in Mplayer and on a standard DVD player. I think it must not play nice with the newer version of the library.

I must have upgrade something, probably Mplayer, which has replaced the old library with the new one.
