burning software for VL-6 Std

I believe we got a problem, not having a Xfce-suitable burning software. I am gonna list possibilities, and invite suggestions and comments.

The other options are unknow to me or interfering with the philosopy of VL as beeing slim and low on resources.

Actually, I'm planning on packaging xfburn for VL-5.8.  It is the Xfce burning utility.  I know it's fairly limited compared to, say, k3b, but it's perfectly acceptable.  In fact, it is what Xubuntu includes as it's standard.

I like the idea of offering graveman as well.

Here I go again, making ASSumptions:

I assumed that since graveman was included with 5.8std it would also be included with 6.0std - it works fine for my purposes.  Something like bashburn/mybashburn would be a great CLI tool, but may not be worth the overhead in the ISO.

Graveman probably will be included in VL-6. I would like to have an alternative to Graveman. Xfburn looks promising.

There is nothing at all wrong with XCDRoast for someone who knows what they are doing.  The user interface is hardly friendly, particularly for newcomers.  XCDRoast is powerful but k3b is every bit as powerful and user friendly as well.

I should mention that the latest subversion code for xfburn does correctly handle DVD burning as well although the feature set is still limited.  I expect that as xfburn matures it will be the de facto standard for Xfce which means VL probably should give it a really good, long look.

Amen to that.  I stumbled around with it enough to find I didn't like it.  Not saying it's not fine software.  Just not easy to figure out without doing a bit of research.

Graveman - Buggy and depricated; reborn as brasero.

Gnomebaker, k3b, or brasero are acceptable if dependency issues can be resolved.

xfburn is fine - limited, but fine - as long as you also include basburn/mybashburn to pick up the slack (no pun intended). CLI tools, yes, but at least they present some nice text-based menus.

FWIW, K3B can get away with just kdelibs on top of a stock 5.8 Standard install. We already have a subset of kdelibs for kdm in there, so hopefully it shouldn't be all that much of a problem.

I actually prefer KDE, both in looks, functionality and technical design.

Unfortunately, Miguel de Icaza thought it would be a neat idea to replicate one of the biggest mistakes in software in GNOME: the registry.

A registry represents a single point of failure for GNOME (or any other software for that matter). Kill just GConf or even mess up its keys and you are screwed, you end up with a dead GNOME desktop. All the apps may be functional, but if GConf isn't there or doesn't hand out configuration info as it should, they won't work correctly.
Storing all the vital configuration settings for an entire desktop environment and other apps in one single place is just not a good idea.

And I thought I would be free from the need for registry "decrappifiers" after leaving Windows behind. 

I packaged GNOME because I believe in choice, and I'm glad to see that there are lots of folks happy with it, but IMHO, KDE should continue to be the default for SOHO.
