That is ever so sweet. Just yesterday I was wondering when a new version would be released, as a new stable release would be a great platform for a new Dynamite and it would finally enable me to build/use apps that need gcc4.

[edit]
I just saw there were 2 topics about this, so I merged them to keep all the rejoicing in the same thread Wink

Headed over here to make sure there was a thread about it. The (presumably) upcoming Dynamite is probably going to be the first Dynamite I've ever tried. Ironically though, I'm _still_ running VL5.1.1SOHO at home lol, tribute to both lack of time and one awesome release.Cheesy

I've been playing around with current a bit the past few weeks and have upgraded that install to RC1.

Looking forward to the next Dynamite (though 5.8 is so sweet it's going to stay on here too)!

relax blurymind Wink, we just got SOHO a couple of weeks ago.

I would say let's build VL 6 on a stable Slack 12. Yes, we'll have to wait for Slack 12 to be released before we can actually continue developing VL 6, but it would be a rocksolid base to build on and we can make sure VL6 has proper Slack 12 compatibility (isn't it nice to be able to use packages from Slacky.it & Linuxpackages.net?).

Then again I have nothing to say about this, and I'm not sure the impatient devs Smiley will be able to wait that long.

Just a couple of observations ... it seems to be getting fairly stable now, though who knows what changes will happen between now and the final release.

One little irritation involved gamin.  I had to manually add a gamin config file otherwise Konqueror wasn't showing files made (or deleted) until I hit refresh.  Took me a couple weeks to figure that out.

I've heard that the upgrade to gcc 4 (4.1.2) may cause some problems compiling some things, especially games.

I haven't really noticed much, in the way of newer stuff, that I miss in VL58; but then, I'm not running Beryl etc.   I could have missed something, especially related to xfce, as I've only used KDE (3.5.6 and now 3.5.7) in it, and have spent a lot less time in Slack than in VL.  (I don't think I'm quite cut out to be a true Slacker ... I installed slapt-get and the tukaani package tools with lzma early on Grin )

Agreed that performance with stability is one thing that makes VL great!

I do not get my information from DW. I mirror and monitor
slackware.

I will do my best to keep you updated. An RC3 is a good guess
there are still some issues to work out.
