blurymind has packaged KTranslator for VL 5.8, and it can be downloaded from the testing repository:

http://vectorlinux.osuosl.org/veclinux-5.8/testing/kde/ktranslator-0.4-i586-1vl58.tlz

Code:
ktranslator: ktranslator ( KTranslator is a program to translate words  )
ktranslator:
ktranslator: The main idea behind KTranslator is to translate a word without
ktranslator: disturb the application in use. So, when the user selects a word
ktranslator: while pressing CTRL key, KTranslator will try to translate the word
ktranslator: and show the result in a popup window. Download your dictionary
ktranslator: library from: -- http://ktranslator.sourceforge.net/dictionaries.html
ktranslator: Author: Raul Fernandes < rgfbr@yahoo.com.br >
ktranslator: Website: http://ktranslator.sourceforge.net/
ktranslator: License: Gnu GPL

Post feedback here.
