So a genuine piece of crap. I recommend all Windows users who won't use Linux or anything else to continue XP.

It boggles the mind. The article briefly mentioned cd burning (or the lack thereof) in Vista. Groklaw has something on that: http://www.groklaw.net/article.php?story=20070422083715451Having heard that Vista's CD/DVD burn utility by default uses a nonstandard format, possibly as a result of yet another one of Microsoft's lock-in schemes, I decided to check things out for myself. That would also give me a nice chance to see what Vista was all about.
The plan was simple: 1. Locate a Vista box, 2. Bring empty CD's plus some arbitrary files on a USB stick, and 3. Burn CD's in several ways while making screenshots.
As it turned out, the planning was the simplest part by far. The rest is best described as a tale of frustration. ²

I agree, and I suspect all that hard drive activity will wear it out sooner too. Have to say one thing though, having read the article; I've installed Explorer 7 and it's a big improvement on Explorer 6.

M$ has created an OS that works against the user. For the five years, all they thought about was how to turn the whole OS into a giant spyware, which takes most of the ram to monitor the user and send the information to M$. After that restrict and threaten. Thats not a very good product. I bet that even RIAA wouldnt like their computers to have it. I wouldnt like to use such an Os,even if i had a gun pointed at my head. They can take their license, shove it up their arse and set fire to it. XP will never go away, but m$ might try to persuade its users to upgrade to vista, when it stops patching it up or even bork it with "security patches" .

Actually, I'd prefer it if they set fire to it first, then shove it up their collective butt (while still burning of course).

thats what most people who know what vista is doing would think and switch to something else/not touch it . For those buying it preinstalled without being informed,or not bothering about it wont matter much... Ofcourse Microsoft has its ways to force through its products by using other products. Mybe they decided to first work on drm and then after releasing it, do the work that has to make it into a stable and useable product. They still have the pc gaming market monopoly. ...and software being developed mainly for them. Money goes to money, but reckless management and sloppy work, while having competition will eventually bring them slowly down... so why not attack competition? Thats soo microsoft.. Greedy control monopolist selling us desktop machines...but nobody wants to be observed by Big Brother. Isnt that against human rights? Nobody wants to live is George Orwell's 1984. They have the hardware market as well, and will put drm chips wherever they can.

Well, now: Microsoft is simplifying the processes via which its PC-maker partners will be able to provide “downgrade” rights from Windows Vista to Windows XP for their customers. http://blogs.zdnet.com/microsoft/?p=543

Until you manipulate fear. MS' best bet is to tie in with the 'War on Terra' somehow.
