I think that application from www.r-project.org may be included in VL repo since it is very important for a variety of tasks that VL user may have whether it is education, research, science, data analisys. Thanks, veki

Would it be possible to update the R package? I'm runing VL6.0, it's version of R is R 2.9.1. It's up to 2.11 now. I'm novice in both VL and R, so I don't dare to do the packaging myself, or compile it from source.
thanks a million, -j

Hello,
Please check in repos firstly is it available already. In addition, read carefully documentation for R since it is not package for novices in the field. It requires scientific pre-knowledge.
Best wishes,
Veki

Hello Veki, # slapt-get --update # slapt-get --install R says R is up to date. that is R-2.9.1 In http://vectorlinux.osuosl.org/veclinux-6.0/extra/PACKAGES.TXTonly R-2.9.1-i586-1vl60.tlz shows up. There's a good number of R packages that require a base of R-2.10. I don't know what could be the consequences of compiling from source on top of a system with an older package already installed. cheers, -j

Just remove the package by using removepkg in console, then build your new installation using the source files. It's as easy as that.

Hello,
You can try to remove old package and install the latest version of package. I Think that you should not damage system by doing so. Indeed, please check in documentation and list of features for R do you really need the latest R package.

Thank you very much for the suggestions. I removed the 2.9.1 package with removepkg, compiled 2.11 from source and installed. It seems to be working fine; old R packages had to be reinstalled. Thank you again!
