Top of the morning to all - I'm trying to get my Acer Aspire 5610z to go into the
suspend mode when I close the lid or when it gets to a certain point of non
activity.

I have been unable to do that by configuring in Control Panel's power managment
section.

I'm wondering about ACPI or other factors I know little about, so I need some
guidance on this.

I did a search in here and found only a thread about a non functional fan on a
laptop.  That tells me everything is fine with suspend on the laptops being used
by Vectorites!

I suspect something is not installed.. help would be appreciated very much.

I had written a HowTo about adding Suspend support in VL 5.8, but its missing along with the other HowTos due to a problem when the forum software was upgraded.
Hopefully those will be recovered...

Anyway, adding Suspend support involves patching the kernel source code and compiling a new kernel
If you feel up to it, I can give you a condensed guide that should get you going.

Hmm...not sure if the kernel in SOHO is, but I don't think so.
The Suspend2 project's patches are supposed to provide better suspend options than whats provided in the kernel, one example is the checking for modules that are known to cause problems with suspend-to-ram, before actually proceeding to hibernate.

Yeah, if the new kernel in this SOHO 5.8 don't have it, I'm willing to go along with some
instruction.

[edit] .. if that is the remedy.. how can I go about investigating that on my machine?
