This version has been compiled without encryption support. The reason is that it needs a version of gpgme >1.0 and libgpg-error > 1.0. I've uninstalled basket, gpgme and libgpg-error and built the latest versions of each from source, and now encryption is functioning properly.

This is a very nice notes program, and it would be good if the versions in the repos could be updated.
