hi,

i use soho 5.8 with kde

recently i did a :ps ax..and saw some services runnig.

for example httpd
i dont have any webserver installed or simila(is only a desktopstation with direct internetconnection)

first i edited inet.conf(actually i disabled every service)
then i did the services unexecutable in /etc/rc.d/  )
but there isnt any rc.httpd service to adjust

this services are under /sbin/....but there i wont do anything..too dangerous for me

so where is the place where i can disable certain services?? (httpd, snmbd..)

unfortunately i deinstalled samba..afterwards my mplayer didnt started...after reinstall of the samba package all was fine.
and i dont know the dependencies by heart...

thanks in advance for your time..and thanks for the great distro..i like it..and i mean it(got mine per airmail ..2 cds recently)

[Apologies for butchered German...]

You can also try setting the services for your runlevel in VASM.

(I give up on my pathetic command of German...  Cry)

That's just cuz I looked at dict.cc. If you spoke with me in person, I would know next to nothing. At least I remembered teh grammar from high school.

hi,
find /etc/ -iname "httpd" brought no result
but this below
root:# ps ax | grep httpd
 3438 pts/1    R+     0:00 grep httpd

root:# ps ax | grep snmbd
 3430 pts/1    R+     0:00 grep snmbd

i am not sure now, if this output above is from the search command....

i dont use samba...maybe this is necessary for database with mplayer or something else

the R+ implies that this service is running....
or did i jump to conclusions on this issue?

here is my rc.d directory

The tool you maybe looking for is locate.

First run as root "updatedb"

After that then "locate httpd | more" remember no quotes.

Then you should be able to find the executable. Using more
is a pager so for the next page use the space. You may also
want to check for "apache"

find would have worked; except that the asterisks were absent from the search string:

Code:
find /etc -iname '*httpd*'
