Changing the desktop wallpaper in Vector 4.3
« on: July 04, 2007, 01:06:12 pm »

How do you do it? I know the wallpaper images are situated in /usr/share/pixmaps but I've been unable to find a way to change them except by using xkill, which also gets rid of the desktop icons.

Thanks in advance,

Colonel Panic.

It has been a while since I used 4.3 but if I remember right it came with Icewm (my favorite). The background is specified in your /home/(user)/.icewm/preferences file. Look for it near the bottom of the file. Be sure you remove the # sign from the front of the specific line with your background

Right click on the desktop background. Choose *Backdrop...* from the bottom of the menu. Drag an image in.

Thanks Gamfa, I'll bear that in mind the next time I'm in IceWM. Vector, that applies to Xfce if I'm not mistaken? Is there an equivalent command in Fluxbox (which I'm using now)?

For fluxbox, use fbsetbg.
Here is some extra usage info for fbsetbg:

if memory serves we used the rox-filer pinboard  to supply background and icons in that release so my post would apply to change the background wallpaper...........:)

Actually, IIRC, with Rox you had to right-click on an existing icon, the background wouldn't work.

Yep, I've right-clicked on an icon and changed the background, it works.

Thanks!  :)
