At long last a Fluxbox package is available in the testing repo, that works out-of-the-box and provides customized menus for both 5.8 Standard and SOHO (the menus are installed according to the contents of /etc/vector-version). A cool theme was also set by default Source: http://vectorlinux.osuosl.org/veclinux-5.8/source/testing/x-apps/fluxbox/Package: http://vectorlinux.osuosl.org/veclinux-5.8/testing/x-apps/fluxbox-1.0rc3-i586-1vl58.tlzfluxbox: Fluxbox - lightweight and customizable window manager fluxbox: fluxbox: Fluxbox is yet another windowmanager for X. Tt's based fluxbox: on the Blackbox 0.61.1 code. Post feedback for this package here.

Thanks for that, I'll give it a go soon. Fluxbox is one of my favourite WMs along with IceWM.
Just one thing though, 7 MB+ for a Flux file; what else is there in it to make that big?

Yeah, I included quite a few extra wallpapers, since fluxbox has the option to set random wallpapers on startup. Those can be removed if necessary!

Very cool! Fluxbox has always been one of my favorites. I'm impressed that you guys made it preconfigured for users that might have a bit of trouble. I'll have to give it a go soon.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm.... Installed yesterday and thought I'd give it a whirl this morning.. First attempt at starting the system using Fluxbox resulted in being sent right back to the login screen. Second attempt resulted in logging in to KDE, even though Fluxbox was selected.
Edit -- Strange... Logged out and attempted again. It worked this time. **scratching head**

Yes it has, fbsetbg -r and then the directory. Someone's also written a script to change wallpapers at random from a directory after a given period of time, using feh; http://myrddin.org/2006/12/16/random-wallpaper-script/Btw, I've got the "icebergs" wallpaper up at the moment with the NVA-91 style, very cool.

Cool. However since Esetroot was included with VL 5.8 Standard, thats what fluxbox uses by default (unless you install feh yourself). The Magic-X and the NVA-91 themes are my favourites

Is this package still available? I had a look in the repo but couldn't find it.
Thanks in advance,

just install fluxbox and still getting use to it..... there is 1 small problem, that is the fluxbox menu did not contain all the .desktop that show in my xfce4 menu...I need to manually edit the menu file in .fluxbox.......is there a way to auto detect the .desktop file inside the /usr/share/applications folder?

Fluxbox, like all other lightweight window managers, is only a window manager and not a desktop environment. Hence it does not "automatically" associate its menu with .desktop files. It does supply a command "fluxbox-generate-menu", which you can use, but it is not very robust at picking up all the apps you have. The better program IMHO is menmaker ( http://menumaker.sourceforge.net/ ). It is very good at picking up most apps. If you are using SOHO I have hand made a reasonably good menu for Fluxbox that you can download from here: http://www.freewebs.com/lagagnon/fluxbox_menu.txtThe other option is just to edit ~/.fluxbox/menu yourself - it is very straightforward.
