I voted man and machine, the reasons are on the other topic  :)
Briefly, I dont think a 64bit sys is a must rigth now, but if it will be developed, I will try to help.
I do have a 64bit box, and you guys can use it. My knowledge about developing is poor, so my commitment is for testing.
Something to think about is, VL will need more people not just for developing, support, testing, packaging, they are in the list too. A special section in the forum, repo maintainers, ..., ...

I would have to repartition my drive on my 64-bit computer and I don't want to do that. I wish I could help, but I'll have to limit that to testing upcoming 32-bit versions on my older desktop.

If 64-bit testers are blown away by the wonders of it, I may change my mind and steal 10 gigs from a 150-gig NTFS partition I use for rendering videos.

Happily running VL 7 Gold on  a Sempron LE-1300 desktop (2.3 GHz), 4 G RAM,  GeForce 6150 SE onboard graphics and on an HP Pavilion dv7 i7, 6 gigs, Intel 2nd Generation Integrated Graphics Controller

For now, there's plenty of space on my hard drive (and a partition that I intend to use for packaging) so I could give it a go if a VL 64-bit was available.

I've certainly got the time and the hardware for testing other people's efforts.

Aside from the fact that I don't have any Intel-compatible 64bit hardware, the time I'm able to spend on "regular" VL is already somewhat limited at times.
Maybe when I start college in a few months time I could high-jack one of their machines for this, but right now I've voted for the fourth option.

Universidade de Évora, right? Could you keep me posted about their Linux activities, please? Since I'm away from Portugal, it's good to know what's going on in there.
What degree are you going to take?

Yep, thats where I'll be studying. I'll be doing Computer Science (Engenharia Informática), and thanks to the Bolonha treaty, I can have a Masters in five years :)
The university has just released Alinex 2.0Beta2, BTW.
I'm "wget'ing " a copy right now to try it out, and hope its better than the previous release (which was somewhat flaky and quite out-of-date).

No 64bit Alinex either.

Now, that's a good deal!
But come to England, and you can have a degree and Masters in 4!  ;)

I voted "other" because I don't have a 64-bit machine.  I do plan on buying one by the end of the year and then, yes, I'd volunteer as much as time permits.  I do believe a 64-bit version is critical if VL is to be taken seriously in the future.

I do not mind redoing my machine again to test out a VL 64bit package.

I realize I'm not an active member of this forum, but I come here and read, and I do use VL.
I'm willing to help with the testing of a 64 bit VL. I can make room to install on my main box. I've not enough knowledge to actually write anything, but given time, I can probably learn to compile and test. Due to my work schedule and my wife's health issues, I may not be able to consistently contribute, but I'll do what I can to help.
Of course, this all hinges on whether you [all] decide to do a 64 bit VL.

Now that VL64-5.9-Pseudo-0.1 is a reality I'm going to try and build packages for both 32 and 64 bit versions and test both.
