Hi I want to install an FTP server on my Vector linux 5.8
I looked around the web and found VSFTPD.
But when I type man vsftpd in box it does not find any infomation about this.

I know that we do not use apache instead we use thttpd which works great on my box as well as apache.  But what is normal to use for an FTP server in Vector linux?

Or how would you move your webpages and files to the home directory for thttpd with out an FTP server?

There is a package for vsftpd at www.linuxpackages.net that should work well under VL.

man pages for software normally are on your computer only after you actually install the software,

I don't think there is any "normal". Whatever you feel comfortable with...

I recommend to install XAMPP if it can suite your needs. You will find a complete lamp server easy to install and configure. It is a distribution of apache, php, mysql, sendmail and more.

Vector can use the Slack format, .tgz, and the vector packages are .tlz. To install them you can use

Code:
# installpkg [name_of_the_package]

as root from a terminal, or rigth clic on the package and use the contextual menu to install the package right from your desktop.
You can use Gslapt or the command line equivalent slapt-get, to install vl packages in an easy way, this method will solve dependencies problems automatically. For mor e info about the VL package system you can take a look to the VL documentation, there is an icon on your desktop for it  Wink, or if you like, here is the online version: http://vectorlinux.osuosl.org/docs/vl58/manuals/vl5_slaptget_en.html
