Installed strace and run up OO twice, normal way that hangs on startup and again with /etc/resolv.conf cleared that makes it startup with no hang. Looking at the traces they are identical until about half way where a number of differences start. Apologies for the size of these but there are so many differences and I do not know enough about the traces to figure out what is going on - I hope they will give you some clues.
