Hello VL community, i've been running off of ubuntu and zenwalk livecd's for the past 2 weeks now searching for "my" distro.
I've been a hardcore debian user for around a year now, and switched over to ubuntu after upgrading hardware 'debian isnt good at keeping up with new computers'. I've got a very modern computer, which seams almost outa place in the linux community.
Amd Dual Core, SLi 8800GT, 160 Raptor Drive 10000rpm, hand built water cooling system.
I'm not sure why alot of linux distros have trouble with newer hardware.
So far i've tryed these distros
zenwalk-> wont even boot
debian-> cannot run xwindow after hardware upgrade
wolivx-> is good as a livecd, but cannot run a desktop/workstation computer
arch-> which again cannot seam to get xwindow's started
slackware -> got it working, but im looking for a more modern package
Sorcerer Linux -> Sounds cool but no elegance.
Gentoo -> Not experienced enough to get past the install
ubuntu -> going the way of windows
I really tryed for zenwalk.. i loved its community and how it worked, but it only offers lilo, which will not install to my newer system's mbr.
so i got up early for work.. burned vector.. and only had a second while running out the door to catch the beautiful OS boot up. as far as i can tell it was running great. I'm really looking for a workstation computer, i am a computer-science major and do alot of programing. Thanks
