wine works pretty fine on vector linux. I'd say whatever you managed to run under ubuntu with wine,you will get kicking in vector.
The reason for ubuntu's behaviour i think is its gnme build. Thats not the ionly thing. Ubuntu is too easy to break,even unwillingly. Vec/slack= more stability and its lighter.
Moe has made packages of latest from compiz-fusion. Get the iso ,burn and install it, from then its 10 minutes untill you spin the cube. Beryl is indeed very handy in some aspects. Older users would argue about it,but it is true. Beryl can make your work easier.Definatelly the "hit a corner of the screen" way of organisation of windows and all...
I agree the wobbling is somewhat useless,but it does look pretty nice.
