OK, I think I've resolved the Kino problems. It doesn't need any X.org-7.2 files to build or run. I reinstalled VL 5.8 to return to a clean system, and installed all the packages in Dweeberkitty's collection except pth. I also needed to install texi2html from the repos. After this Kino built with no issues and seems to work fine. I'll upload this version to my vectorcontrib directory shortly.
I suspect that the X dependency problems which Dweeberkitty found were resolved here by installing the xproto and xextproto packages. I did slightly mess these up by building them as TGZ instead of TLZ, but they install just fine anyway.

Thats great news roseway, glad you found a way to build them in a clean manner. BTW, you can convert a TGZ package into a TLZ package by using the convertpkg command

Roseway, glad you got the Kino thing figured out! BTW, did you compile it with --enable-local-ffmpeg? If not, you might want to recompile it with that option. We have an updated ffmpeg and it would be a shame not to make use of it.

Where might one find this "VideoBonusDisc folder"?

It's something we're working on with a view to creating a bonus CD for general release. The folder is a private one at the moment, but most of the packages in it are becoming available in the Testing repo.

I've now rebuilt Kino with --enable-local-ffmpeg and uploaded it to the VideoBonusDisk folder. The new version is kino-1.1.1-i586-2vl58.tlz. I've established that libXv isn't actually a dependency of Kino, so if nothing else needs it, it can be removed from the collection.

Excellent! We won't remove libXv just yet. (just in case). I'm going to be working on tovid right now, we still have a lot more programs to go, so pick one and let's get going. It should go a little easier from now on because we have most of the base video programs and libraries already built. Also, I fixed all the package descriptions in the folder. These should now be ready for the repo. See here: http://www.vectorlinux.com/forum2/index.php?topic=4111.0I know there are some programs already in the repo (Avidemux) but the deps and everything need to be found and put in the correct places in the folder. Do you want to do that roseway?

Good, also I think there's Audacity, 'Q' dvdauthor and maybe some others that are in the repo. Would you check those and make sure they and their deps are the latest versions?

I must tell you that real life has intruded a bit, and I won't be able to do much for this project for two or three days. Sorry.

I've now uploaded tovid and it's deps: txt2tags, imaging, vcdimager, wxPython, and normalize.

I'm sorry to say that real life is going to limit my free time for quite a while, so I'm not going to be able to give much to this project for the time being. I've rather belatedly submitted kino-1.1.1 for testing today.
