I also had only a working TUI upon first install. It's resolvable, but you might get your feet wet. The trouble with my system was that Vector auto-installed the VIA driver, a driver of which I experienced more trouble before. I could have copied&pasted the generic vesa driver into my xorg.conf, but I was lazier than that... I just copied the whole xorg.conf of my Slack install, and all was well
Can you post the contents of your /etc/X11/xorg.conf ?
