Glad to be aboard. I'm a windows convert and I have been wanting to use linux for over a year, just never had the nerve to make the leap until now. I've had a few hurdles (especially lilo), but I successfully installed VL with no serious problems on my own, and I'm having a blast with it.

I got curious about linux when I interned for a company doing data programming. They used Windows/Mac OS, but I got curious about other OSes when I started using OS X (I was so used to Windows, that I believed it was crap. I was corrected quickly. Very nice!), saw what Linux was about, and gave a live cd a try at home. I was impressed by what could happen w/ an OS on a CD, and the distro wasn't even cutting edge (Santa Fe Linux). I wanted a distro that was hands on and efficient that I switch to from Windows (Slack), then I started getting into simpler distros to start with. When I heard Vector was based on Slack and it was a good/popular distro, I decided I found the perfect distro for me and my needs. I hope to have lots of fun in this community.

EDIT: Using gslapt right now, I've never done something like this before, with the sources at my disposal with a click or a quick entry. This distro is really convenient. Just great for older systems and new. The linux community is awesome.

Welcome!  Glad to see you could make it.  You'll find VL will suite just about anyone.  You will find our distro isn't loaded with the bloat that many of the other distros have.  True the bloat may make life easier for some that are new to Linux, but it also robs your machine of resources and the control that most users demand or eventually demand.  But with that said, our VL guys/girls have done a heck of a job creating utilities that will aid with configuration when YOU decide to invoke them.  And if that's not enough, there is a great community here that is eager to answer your every question.  If they don't know the answer, you will find that they will seek out the answer for you.

You've come to a good place.

Hello back, and welcome.

Package managers like gslapt have taken program installation/removal to a new level of simplicity. This is becoming one of Linux's main strengths.
