Hi,
I just installed VL 5.8 Standard edition which has Xfce 4 Desktop Environment
version 4.3.99.2 (Xfce 4.4 RC2) .

What happens is sometimes when I open the terminal emulator window, do some work and close it, all the icons on the desktop disappear and even the right click context menu doesn't appear.

But the panel works fine and I can access all menu items by clickiing on the V start icon.

I am falling in love with VL but this issue is souring my experience and I would ove to fix it.

Can anyone help?

Thanks.

Ah never mind. Solved this myself too.

I clicked on the V icon at the bottom-left of the screen, clicked on Settings, then Desktop Settings, clicked on Appearance tab and selected "Allow XFCE to manage the desktop".

Then I clicked on the "Sessions and Startup Settings" menu item some way down from the "Desktop Settings" menu item, clicked on the General tab and enabled "Automatically save session on logout"

Hope this helps anyone else who faces this issue.

You might also consider upgrading xfce to 4.4 .

Also, while the session save function can be useful, it has also given me problems before. If you ever run into trouble, remove your .cache directory.
