You can download the iso from here: http://ftp-osl.osuosl.org/pub/vectorlinux/veclinux-5.8/iso-release/VL-5.8-std-Gold.iso
This is a very good place to start with Linux, post any questions here if you need a hand with the install and setup.
With 2.5G, do you mean HD free space? You will need a little more than that for a standard install. I think you can do it selecting your packages carefuly.
