BLAS and Lapack packages and sources can be downloaded from the testing repo. Hats of to the Fedora 7 packagers for info on creating the shared libraries (the default makefiles do not create them).

Apparently I'm missing two files called lapack.so.3 and libg2c.so.0. Has anyone got any idea as to where I can get these and where they should be installed?

Those packages have already moved to the extra repository some time ago. The links have been corrected, so those should solve your problems.

Hmm....you probably need the GCC Fortran package:

You're right, that was the "missing link" I downloaded and installed that gcc package and Octave works now.
