Problem running Live CD in Virtual PC
« on: September 17, 2007, 11:31:15 am »

I'm a complete noob to Linux, and I've been trying to run VLSoHo Live in MS Virtual Pc 2007 to try out the Vector system.
When I run it , it gets to log-in screen ok, but then my keyboard and mouse don't work. I can't get virtual pc to capture the
mouse by clicking in the window either. Any one out there have any suggestions to solve this? (BTW when I run the live cd
from boot up it runs just fine on my machine.)
System: AMD 64 3400+ @ 2572Mz
             Nvidia GeForce 6800 Ultra 256MB
             2 Gb OCZ pc4000 RAM
              WD 36GB Raptor + Maxtor 100GB Sata HDD's
              WinXP Pro w/SP2

I tried installing VL 5.8 Standard in Virtual PC 2007 under Vista and I couldn't get past an early stage of the installation. I then tried VirtualBox and have VL installed and running very well indeed. Plus VirtualBox gives me Shared Folders and custom resolutions and mouse integration (I can move the mouse freely between the virtual machine and the host OS), and my USB flash drive works. So I suggest giving up on Virtual PC and trying VirtualBox for Windows instead.

Happily running VL 7 Gold on  a Sempron LE-1300 desktop (2.3 GHz), 4 G RAM,  GeForce 6150 SE onboard graphics and on an HP Pavilion dv7 i7, 6 gigs, Intel 2nd Generation Integrated Graphics Controller

yeah, but installing it with a virtual pc will mean that you would only be able to boot in it throught windows and have less performance. I personally used vmware last time and had no big problems.
