As I am on Ubuntu at the moment, I have to agree to the reviewer about responsiveness. Slackware (Vector) is far more faster en more stable than my Ubuntu Feisty 7.10 which I use at a daily base. The only thing that bothers me about Slackware is that you have to do the jobs yourself. By this I mean: compiling, making a package, upgradepkg, ... while for Ubuntu everything is easily available. Even by the programmers of the software homepage themselves. We have off course linuxpackages.net, and slacky.it, but still... Ubuntu is far easier when you have less time to figure it all out.

But to be clear: If you have the time, than speed and stability is still Vectors piece of cake!

Yeah, good article. How ever, I dont think a big repo necessarily ends in a slower box. That seems to be the author opinion. May be the canonical packagers are not so good as the vl ones  . May be is better to have less packages and keep the quality in a high level. And, as was pointed many times here, a general understanding of what a computer can do and how  is needed to keep a os fast, name it *buntu, xp, vista or vl. I guess if you add a lot of daemons, services and things like that, vl could be slow, may be, perhaps
So a big repo is good, knowing how to use it too, and using a distro non bloat-friendly is even better

I can relate to this phenomenon.
This is my own personal field of experience, Windows users tend to go with Ubuntu since it resembles Windows the most.
But I don't relate to this, I feel disgusted by Ubuntu when it reminds me of Windows.
I don't see that Slackware necessary is a bad thing when the user has to do the job done. I feel that this is a privilege of learning.
I have always wanted to learn about computers, OS's etc. and VL thanks to Slackware become the obvious choice and not Ubuntu.

Really?  I personally thought it had more of a Mac-ish feel...

Not that it matters - it was terribly, terribly slow on the machine I was testing it on (my now-mediabox) especially when compared to SOHO 5.8, which just flies on it.
