I thought that this is the way to get confirmation on this wallpaper package I was thinking about building for the repos.

I want to make it clear as well that there will be NO nudity, adult content, religious, political content in the wallpapers I choose if it's so that you guys want a wallpaper package.
There will be such wallpapers as landscapes mostly. Scarface is included as well for those who like. Smiley
I need some kind of feedback to make a decision if it's going to be worth while to make such an effort.

Thanks for answering already in advance!

It would be nice to have more wallpapers to chose from. You can have a green light from me Smiley

A wallpaper package would be a nice addition to the repo.  Making them easily available would be great!

The single biggest problem I have with wallpapers in the repo is that: 1) they are not (pre)viewable from within the package archive, 2) I cannot download just a few of them - I must get the entire package and remove unwanted ones.  However, if they are in the repo then everyone knows exactly where to find them.  I also like the idea of having a browsable section somewhere on the VL website with wallpapers that have been contributed - that way a person can simply browse through them (even filter them) and then download the ones they are interested in without having to take them all.  Something like this but lighter-weight(?) and easier on the eyes(?): http://demo.phpwebgallery.net/

Cool, they should be public domain / some kind of gnu compatible licensed pictures too, right? Wink.

I like the idea of having artwork easy to access for the community. After all, we spend a lot of time in front of that monitor, is nice to see something cool.

Wow, now that I think about it, newtor's suggestion would be nice.

I'd love to see something like that DrGrov, though if I may, I'd just like to request a few dark-coloured backgrounds (think Coalescence or ThetisMoon from Digital Blasphemy) as I personally find that the most visually appealing and least stressful for the eyes - too bright and colourful tends to give me a headache after a while Sad  I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be the only one.

I'm all for this DrGrov.  I also agree with BlueMage, I find darker images more appealing, just because of the whole headache thing.

For that matter, if you're up to it, I wouldn't mind seeing a number of packages, perhaps based on various themes/types.

Message me if you want some help (I might take a bit to reply, kind of busy lately, definitely willing to help though).

This is a very valid point and especially important.  I've noticed that interfacelift's content usage rights state

FWIW, I chose the following license for my lava wallpapers collection:
Quote
Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 2.5 License
But then I made them from scratch, you have to be very careful if you are using someone else's image or photo in the wallpapers.

About newtor suggestion about a "browseable" section for wp, there is some simple solutions, like this one, no database required:

http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex4/php-photoalbum.htm

Perhaps a new topic for the "Website mockups" thread.

Thanks guys for the feedback!

I found probably the greatest wallpapers at interfacelift.com. I will try to figure something out on this wallpaper packaging and also will include darker backgrounds as well since I can relate to it that they are less stressful for the eyes. Smiley

I try to find some time soon to address this, bare with me guys. Having a lot of school stuff going at the moment, so I get back as soon as possible when I have time to make it good and not sloppy.

Cheers,

Great wallpaper link at interfacelift.com DrGrov!  I spent about two hours last night looking through it.

Looks like the wallpapers I use on my desktops violate about every "rule", mentioned in this thread....
Even the ones I made myself....
