I want to try VL for a bunch of old machines I'm trying to revive. I've downloaded the VL5.8-std-LIVE.iso to my ubuntu desktop. How to I use that to create a VL live CD? Any help would be appreciated.

Nevermind. Right click in the file browser and there's an option: Open with CD/DVD Creator. Seems to have worked ok.

A Livecd might not be the best thing to run on older hardware, since you'll be limited by the amount of RAM, and the speed of the cd drive. If I were you I'd try the "normal" installcd, and just install that on one of these older machines to see how well it runs.

VL 5.8 standard can be found here: http://vectorlinux.osuosl.org/veclinux-5.8/iso-release/VL-5.8-std-Gold.iso .
You can also decide to wait a few weeks (this is just a guess!!!) for 5.9.

Most music on my soundcloud page was arranged in programs running on VL.

Thanks Headacher, I think I will try that. I assumed that one could install from the live version. It's just as well. The CD I burned last night was corrupted. When I tried to boot from it, I get half a penguin splash screen and then the machine freezes... solid... unplug from the wall kind of crash. So I'll burn another. This time the full version. Thanks for the heads up.

Don't know how old is old, but I'm currently trying out VL 5.8 Standard on a Pentium 2/450 and I'm encouraged so far.  You might find some info of interest here:  http://www.vectorlinux.com/forum2/index.php?topic=4499.0
