Setting up dedicated server with Vector
« on: October 12, 2007, 10:51:47 am »

I installed xampp (apache, mydql & php) through the package manager. I assumed that xampp would be listed in the menus somewhere, but there is no entry so I'm not even sure where to start.

Im new to linux, previously hosted from WinXP. Can anyone give a n00b some pointers?, or refer me to valid post (i did search some)?

Xampp resides in /opt/lampp, you can start it typing as root in a console /opt/lampp/lampp start
Dont close the console window, keep it running. Open a browser and then you can test the server typing localhost at the address bar. Check the faq at, it is pretty good. Post back here if you have any problems.
