VECTOR STANDARD 5.9-BETA2 released
« on: October 23, 2007, 12:04:35 am »

The VectorLinux team is proud to announce the beta2 release of VectorLinux-5.9. This addresses most of the issues and bugs found in the beta1 release. We have also updated to the slack-current tree so many applications and libraries were updated including Xorg 7.2 to Xorg 7.3. We have added some new art work as well as applications to improve on the user experience. This release is based on slackware 12 which introduces the latest Xorg7.x, glibc-2.5 and the gcc-4.1.2 tool chain. Everything in this release has been rebuilt from the ground up resulting in greater speed and stability. We include Xfce4, jwm, fluxbox, the gimp-2.4-rc3, firefox, seamonkey, opera, cups, audacious, gqview, popular multimedia plugins, mplayer, vfirewall, scribus and many other programs to maximize the desktop experience. Also new is the addition of cruxports4slack and our very own vpackager for easy installation of source packages. This is a beta release but the RC is soon to follow after initial peer testing.
We want as many people as possible to test this and give us feedback.

We have set up a bug reporting area on our forum

please join and report findings for our developers. You can download the iso from here:

We have also updated to the slack-current tree so many applications and libraries were updated including Xorg 7.2 to Xorg 7.3.

Is going back to xorg-7.3 wise? This is from the Slackware current changelog:
Quote
"There are a few known problems with this release. Please let us know if you have solutions to any of these. 1. xf86-video-vesa was not upgraded for the X.Org 7.3 release, and running Terminal or VTE under KDE results in an X hang under KDE, or garbage in the terminal under Xfce.

That was one of the issues that caused the "rewind" to xorg-7.2 in beta1.
