For the zydas zd1211 chip problems it is most likely missing firmware. Probably best add it by default.

I thought we had all the zd1211 firmware added by default, can you confirm some are missing?

http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=129083&package_id=187875&release_id=544191
This is the latest firmware pkg I could find for the zd1211 chip. Could someone with this hw try and see if it makes a difference.
Thanks,

I've been getting a [failed] message during boot with the beta. Having now got the splash screen working, I find that its APM that is not being setup, not HAL as I first thought.

This machine is (and should be using ACPI, not APM. Is there a way I can disable attempts to start APM?

It works! Firmware was in charge of the problems. I downloaded the latest firmware and my wifi is up (i`m writing this post using it :-) ) Indeed, wifi radar is now launchable (however not necessary as I configured connection through vasm). I`m not sure if it will be up after reboot, anyway the giant step has been made.

My aditional suggestions:

1. Assign default application for archieves (xarchiever) since no application selected when clicking on zip, tar.gz, etc.

2. "view in browser" in Bluefish doesn`t work. Maybe a default external browser should be selected?

3. I would recommend a wonderfull light editor (and simple IDE) for many languages: Geany. If you accept this idea, you can find package created under Vector SOHO by me with checkinstall here: http://trimen.pl/geany-0.12-i386-1.tgz

4. Having 3 different browsers is in my opinion not necessary, I would replace Seamonkey suite with Sylpheed e-mail client (or Claws-mail) and a newsreader (Pan?)

Does anybody know which game in kde must or can be played full screen. I would like to try it in slack12 to see if I get the same crashes as in VL5.9. If that would be the case it would mean to me that this new xorg stuff is at fault. The first batch was definitely buggy and only when I changed to the slack/current version as recommended by Uelsk things improved. Initially I could not even open X.

Thanks & regards

I just found that when I use xorg.conf-fbdev as xorg.conf megamario and frozen-bubble -fullscreen will not crash and kill X. At the same time I can logout w/o X freezing with a blank screen and a disabled keyboard.

There is only one problem the screen resolutuion is not right and I seem to be unable to set it for my lcd screen in this xorg.conf-fbdev. xfce4 settings manager Display does not show any choices except default. I usually have Depth 24 Modes "1280x1024"

If I that can be resolved I will finally be set with VL59.

Can anyone assist me please?

And thanks nightflyer, unfortunately I do not have that program ppracer.

Pita,
using xorg.conf-fbdev makes xorg use the frame buffer to set it you need to change lilo or grub.
if you use lilo the in your lilo.conf change the line that says
vga = 791
to
vga = 794
then run "lilo" and reboot
or just run vliloconf and choose a resolution from the list

Until 5.9 ppracer never would get past a few fps. Thus I had to use chromium as a test for my laptop's video (Intel GM 82855 chip). Now ppracer works very well and smoothly. What is the difference? It wouldn't work with SuSE 10.x, VL, Fedora 5 thru 7, Zenwalk, (K)Ubuntu, or Slack 10 thru 12!

Thanks! That worked.

It seems to me that xf86-video-savage-2.1.3-i486-1 file is defective. The prolem I have is not confined to VL59, it is the same with slackware12 and slack clones running on slack12.

Whom does one address this to for correction? Volkerding, Xorg.com? Who will do it, one of your peolpe or me?

Regards
