Hi lagagnon,
I tried to reload lilo again from VASM but did not see a -v option. It may be on the Vector CD which, if I recall, has a lilo reload option. I have not tried that. I do note that the intermittent slow booting began immediately after I tried to change the keyboard on this Omnibook 900 machine. Anyway, today at least, it has happily booted properly twice.
I then followed your fdisk -l suggestion and that is printed out below. I also read the Thunar help page and went into preferences on Thunar and don't know if that helped as I also tried to load Thunar beta from gslapt and now Thunar doesn't work at all. So I unloaded Thunar beta and Thunar still doesn't work (probably will when I reboot - I will post if rebooting doesn't fix Thunar).
You may well be right on the puppy suggestion as I ran puppy on this machine for about a year before switching to vector. I am very, very happy with Vector. My recollection is that the Thunar file open problem probably applies mostly to files done 30 days or so ago and newer files seem to open properly. I am still verifying this. Who knows, I may have fixed it. If not, I can use xfe, which I like too (very slight preference for Thunar for most things).
Now to your request for information, which, by the way, I appreciate very much:
