I'm not sure if this is a general Vector question, or whether it is specific to the 5.9 beta. At the moment, I've only got the beta installed.

Anyhow, after setting Abiword to use the UK dictionary, I get errors - Abiword complains that it cannot load the UK dictionary.

So, the question - where should I be looking for the default dictionaries, and how do I find (and load) the UK dictionary?

Thanks...

you can either enable the 5.9 testing repo and use slapt-get/gslapt or download it from here: http://vectorlinux.osuosl.org/veclinux-5.9/testing/libs/aspell-uk-1.1_0-noarch-1vl59.tlz
and use installpkg

 Grin Thanks.

I looked at that one, but the description says it Ukranian, not United Kingdom...

I thought that all the English variants were included in the main -en version, but Abiword is complaining about not being able to find it...

I found the main dictionaries in /usr/lib/aspell, but even though there are a number of en_GB files in there, Abiword doesn't seem to understand them. Is there a step I'm missing?

you are correct.

aspell works and can check files from CL with the GB dictionary so I think it is a problem with abiword.

Could be. One thing I notice is that the environmental variable LANG is defaulted to en_US, even though I have locale set to europe/london.  I'm not sure where that is set - haven't found it in profile or /etc/profile.d/coreutils-dircolors.sh (which seems to be where a lot of other basics are set).

I'll have to see if I can find a sample of aspell.conf and set that up for en_GB.

IIRC, the files are lang.csh and lang.sh at /etc/profile.d

Thanks Rodrigo. That's where it is. I'll edit it before the next boot...

A further note to this. I did a bit of digging (found that I can use the GB dictionary under Zenwalk, just not Vector). It turns out that Abiword under Zenwalk is set to use the main dictionaries, but it uses its own dictionaries under Vector. Found and downloaded an english_GB dictionary, and it works now...

If anyone else wants languages other than US English, have a look here:

http://www.abisource.com/download/abispell.phtml

The dictionaries all seem to be in Zip format, and should be unziped into /usr/share/Abisuite-2.4/dictionary. That, combined with having LANG set to the correct language seems to do the trick..
