gslapt..
« on: November 02, 2007, 07:23:18 am »

hi,

i dont know if i am right here...anyway, if necessary put this thread to the appropiate forum..

i use soho 5.8...still very happy with it...

surely i use gslapt (with gui) too.
its the packagemanager, but without dissolve dependencies...

so , how do you accomplish your softwareinstalls?

for instance i downloaded ktorrent....i mark it..a window pops up..missing dependencies qt..download on your own risk...
so i looked up for qt..found only a qt-engine
anyway..i downloaded ktorrent and it works fine..

my question: how do you make this??or do you know the dependencies by heart?
what do you do if such a message pops up (missing dependencies..) and cant find it in gslapt..

i am only asking for the proper way..
i have no probs with gslapt(the packagemanager should not be responsible for dependencies..rather the admin)
is there a recipee how i can handle this....

ps: thanks to the nice forum by the way..i always have had the feeling i am not alone with my probs and people care about my issuess..
...a strong community(not in numbers..rather in quality is the key to a successsfull distri..in my opinion)
thats thee reason, why i still like vl.
the distri is anyway superb...

It is my opinion that dependency resolution is one of the main reasons for a package manager. Gslapt has done a good job for me so far. I installed ktorrent and don't remember any conflicts.

You may want to check your sources. If you enable non-official repositories, problems may occur.

does that mean gslapt can solve dependencies?....

okay i will check my sources....ääähh are there by chance any "unofficial" sources listed there?

i downloaded a few weeks ago the gslaptrc-file....and uncommented the lines, that had the nearest sources (geografically) there.
anything wrong with that?

btw: i never found knetwork..or knetworklisa in the repos...
is this in kpackage ??

okay...meanwhile i did found the link too...thanks anyway..

and you mean, "wrong" sources could cause a dependency-conflict...
so i will get over the file tonight...

only to catch the sentence correct....gslapt solve dependencies (like the apt-get-frontend in debian)
hmm...it never occured to me, because i thougt the slackware(vl) philosophie is to install a package. if there are missing dependencies...the admin should care about it.
