man pages
« on: November 02, 2007, 08:48:54 am »
ok, I'm very new with VL, like, "hold my hand".  In an effort to get a hold on the fstab, I tried to go to /man/man5/fstab.5.gz (I'm not sure of the .5. is correct.  can't remember, but the file that comes up is complete gibberish.  To me it looks like some strange machine language or something.

What am I doing incorrectly?  Oh btw, this is probably the 1st of many questions before I get VL working the way I would like it.

Thanks.  I don't understand why I always seem to do things the difficult way.

If you insist on viewing man pages the difficult way, use:

zcat /usr/man/man5/fstab.5.gz | gtbl | nroff -mandoc | less -is

:)
A complex system that works is invariably found to have evolved from a simple system that works.
