OK boys and girls, thanks to everyones input on the beta2 we are proud to release the RC1 of VectorLinux 5.9 standard. We should not be to far away from a final at this point. We want to be looking at the over all usability of this release and where we can make improvements in the user experience. This includes squashing remaining bugs and improving the package mix.
I think most of the bugs are squashed as reported with the exception of some random hardware issues which is kernel and/or the new X.Org-73 related which we have little control except to wait for patches from upstream.
With this release we updated firefox, seamonkey, opera and the gimp to their latest. We improved on the art work (subject to discussion) and added a few software selections to balance the useability. We did some major code cleanups to the init system and udev for faster bootup and shutdown speeds. The developement team is very pleased with this release we think you will be too. Please continue to test this release and file all bugs that you find. Links for downloading and bug reports follow.
