Here are some of my old stuff: it used to be on posted on this forum, but i can't find it anymore, so:
graphics were mainly done with a 3d program - Povray (except the starship, it was done in Wings3d, then ported to Povray), Vector logo added with the GIMP

Cool. However, I think the big "V" could use a little bit of blending with the back ground. Try selecting the whole V, then chose Selection>>Select border and chose a pixel size like 5 or something. Then go to Filters>>Blurs>>Gaussian Blur and blur it with approximately the same number of pixels as your border. That will remove some of the hard edges. Be careful not to over do the border or blur or you'll end up something that fades into the background. Try it and see what you think.

I like this one.  I also like the blues.  Comparing to MS's blue screen of death is so unfair.  Blue was around long before MS.

But...  as much as I like blue, it is maybe a little too common these days.  I remember test driving the Sabayon (or however it's spelled) live CD awhile ago to see beryl in action, they had a orange based wallpaper and related colors for theming.  It was definitely a breath of fresh air. Not that I'm a fan of orange, but it worked nicely.

LOL, like since the beginning of the world!
I have to agree with Blury, I Like your work very much, but I think a more darker "oiled" blue would be better.
I like http://www.freewebs.com/kurtzer/3d/ajme.jpg, the blue shade in the top is great.

Here's one that I did a while back with a deeper blue. Made purely in GIMP.
