Here's one that I did a while back with a deeper blue. Made purely in GIMP.

I like this one.  I also like the blues.  Comparing to MS's blue screen of death is so unfair.  Blue was around long before MS.

I like this on, too. The Blue Screen of Death is not the same shade of blue as what you see anywhere in Vector or in various wallpapers.

But...  as much as I like blue, it is maybe a little too common these days.  I remember test driving the Sabayon (or however it's spelled) live CD awhile ago to see beryl in action, they had a orange based wallpaper and related colors for theming.  It was definitely a breath of fresh air. Not that I'm a fan of orange, but it worked nicely.

I guess nothing but blue would do for me. I could never live with an orange background, or yellow, or Ubuntu brown, or green, or red, or pink. I also don't like busy backgrounds, photos, nature scenes, etc.

One thing that sort of puzzles and amuses me is why dark backgrounds seem popular with so many Linux fans. I really detest dark backgrounds. How gloomy! Maybe it's too "goth" for me. Every time I check out some Linux site with wallpapers, I find thumbnail after thumbnail after thumbnail with dark backgrounds, and often busy dark backgrounds. The worst of all possible worlds!

Fortunately, we don't have to use them.

I think the reason may be rooted in having a transparent, permanent terminal over the dark background wallpaper. That way you can actually read the text, while with a light background you have to massage aterm (or whatever) colour settings considerably. Many geeky Linux types enjoy these background terminals on their desktop...yours truly sometimes included

I like blue too. I have not aesthetic preference over any color though. Beautifulness is about the harmony of various components interacting.
The blue of the bsod is hard to combine. Too much green (I am thinking in rgb mode;))
I like dark styles, but my reason is the amount of light in your eyes. Too much light hurts me in my eyes. I work most of the time with jEdit or gVim, and I find the dark blue combinations the most relaxing and friendly with my eyes. Since sometimes I work with many "windozed" apps I have to keep a dark wallpaper too. 
But I use light colors sometimes as a change.
I dislike busy backgrounds too, but sometimes I like some modern art wallpapers. I used to keep many pictures of Gyula Kosice sculptures, a chez-argentinian artist, and Xul Solar, This one is one of my favorites from Xul: CLICK

Just shows yet again that people are pleased differently about art.  The orange thing I mentioned earlier is something I'd never think I would like.  But the wallpaper used was a filtered close up of some orange flower I've never seen before, and there was a drop of water.  I thought it beautiful, and then the rest of the theme set it off.  But that was my opinion at the time I saw it. 

Not trying to single GrannyGeek out, but it's a very good example.  She passionately hates the new 5.9 default wallpaper.  I truly love it.  And haven't even thought about changing it. But that's okay.  We are different.

rbistolfi's favorite wallpaper is interesting indeed, but not my thing, and not a wallpaper I'd even consider.

Dweeberkitty's wallpaper is so awesome.  But I'd rather admire it as a image rather than a wallpaper.  I've used that style in the past and found it distracting.  Maybe because I like them so much I get sucked into them?  When I read the tutorial on how to make that style image, I must of made 50 of them.  And I can't bring myself to delete them.  They are amazing.  But theres someone out there that hates them.

I'm just glad we are good natured enough to hear honest, un-sugarcoated opinions of our work, and not get our feelings hurt.  A artist couldn't ever please everyone.

That's right. It's all a matter of taste, not right or wrong. What matters is that we can indulge our preferences. Indeed I do hate the "Vector on granite" of 5.9, but I can change it in about two seconds. And if I come upon a wallpaper I like here or in my journeys around the Net, I can switch to that one.

I'd never thought of that. Probably because I've never cared for transparent terminals or transparency in general. I find it very difficult to read text in a transparent terminal no matter what the color scheme is. "Coolness" is not part of my computing vocabulary.<g>
