Super Happy Card-Reader Time!
« on: November 06, 2007, 06:37:05 pm »

Yes, that is what I anticipate at the end of my journey - a working card-reader!

This is on my Acer laptop, a Travelmate 8000 that's 3 years old now.  Everything else Vector-y works - wifi, power management, etc - with the exception of the 4-way scroll button.  But that's not what I'm interested in.

It's also got an all-in-one card-reader, which I'd like to be able to make use of.

Output of lspci:
Code: [Select]
00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation 82852/82855 GM/GME/PM/GMV Processor to I/O Controller (rev 02)

02:06.2 System peripheral: O2 Micro, Inc. OZ711Mx 4-in-1 MemoryCardBus Accelerator
02:06.3 CardBus bridge: O2 Micro, Inc. OZ711M3/MC3 4-in-1 MemoryCardBus Controller
02:07.0 FireWire (IEEE 1394): Texas Instruments TSB43AB21 IEEE-1394a-2000 Controller (PHY/Link)

I can see four entries there for the card-reader, so at the very least it's recognised.

Also, in the /dev/dri folder, there's an entry called card0 - is this in any way related?

Thanks in advance.

(By the way, if anyone wants to take a stab at the 4-way scroll button, I'd be most appreciative - they're treated as mouse buttons)

EDIT:  Whoops, forgot:  running Vector SOHO 5.8 Final

I've been using a card reader, but on my desktop computer. Only tried SD cards so far, and the icon shows promptly on the desktop when using HAL.
It also shows up when using vl-hot, but only if you do "sginfo -l" as root after inserting the card. Are you using HAL or vl-hot?

As for the mouse, maybe something on the ZAxis Mapping setting in /etc/X11/xorg.conf ??

I found a driver here http://www.musclecard.com/sourcedrivers.html
but the download seems to be broken :(

VL-Hot - I'm not too enthusiastic about upgrading from 5.8 SOHO on my laptop, as I've put in a fair amount of work to get it just right the way it is, and y'know, it's my baby.

That's what I thought, and I've had a play around with it.  It seems to work - I can put in ZAxis Mapping "3 5" and that seems to work well enough, but, that causes problems if I plug a mouse in - we get some button-mismapping.  Is there a way to automate a swap between the two mappings?  I mean, I've got a few ideas, but the actual implementation I can't figure out yet.

rbistolfi, I'll take a look there, see what I can find.  Man, I wish I'd brought my laptop with me :(

Well, I keep looking for a while and looks like everybody is looking for that driver. You Google the driver name and all what you get is "does anybody knows where can I download this driver?"

About the mouse, must be a to do it. Is it an usb mouse? If it is, perhaps you can get a custom kernel name for it so you can put two  "InputDevice" sections in your xorg.conf, the path of the device would be the key to difference them

Code: [Select]
Section "InputDevice"
    Identifier     "Touchpad"
    Driver         "mouse"
    Option         "Protocol" "auto"
    Option         "Device" "/dev/touchpad"
    Option    "ZAxisMapping" "3 5"

Section "InputDevice"
    Identifier     "UsbMouse"
    Driver         "mouse"
    Option         "Protocol" "auto"
    Option         "Device" "/dev/usb_mouse"
    Option    "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"

I hope that makes sense, I am thinking at loud here  ::). /dev/mouse should be a dinamic symlink now, pointing ora to the mouse ora to the touchpad, so avoiding the symlink and "hardcoding" the path to the proper devices (in the example /dev/usb_mouse and /dev/touchpad) should do it.
