M$ and their broken OOXML standard please vote

Please take a minute to look at this subject of OOXML and M$ attempts to make it a standard. Your vote counts. M$ should get stonewalled at the next meeting. Voice your opinion.

MS is attempting to get OOXML approved as an open standard. This
is the second attempt. The first attempt failed.

Why this matters. MS is attempting to get thier standard approved so
that they can keep a proprietary format in place and thus creating the
document standards. If they succeed then they can continue to dictate
what the standards are for documents and maintaining that standard.

The other thing is to allow MS to use its' own standard and not conform
to anyone elses' formats. Think of IE a broken browser that has stuck its'
nose up at WC3.

Well, I saw ~70,000 signatures (one of which is already mine), but that's nothing to sneeze at either. Good Gawd, look at all the strictly technical flaws in the OOXML specification:

This is where last summer the committees voted 'No, unless' for OOXML as a standard. MS had -how many?- months to clear up ~10,000 remarks, complaints, holes and errors in their proposed standard.


I had no real fear that they would succeed, as only the printing of the proposition will take weeks (~6000 pages).

Just found out that Canada's official position will be to oppose (vote NO to OOXML). Anyone know anything about the USA? Please let me know if you do.

Well, one of Microsoft's key arguments for pushing OOXML as an ISO standard is that ISO (and also ECMA) would be in control of the standard, Microsoft wouldn't independently interfere with its evolution. This was their promise.

Yep. Anyhow, we all know that MS' "commitment to interoperability" means nothing, why should OOXML have to be any different
