Hi!
I have a problem with Java. I try to open this chat web page that uses Java to work. When I open chat windows they are actually Java Applet Windows. They open fine and I can chat perfectly... the problem is that when I want to close them clicking on the X button to close... they dont close! I have to close the main page of chat (the one in the browser) to close all applet windows. I dont have that problem in Windows, and I have this problem in all the versions of Linux I have used... (Ubuntu, SUSE, and Vector) I think its a Java configuration problem... can somebody help me out? Thanks so much!
PS If you want to test the problem yourself the web page is www.elchat.com   it's in Spanish (im Latin!!) but only first you just have to click on the big yellow happy face, then wait for an small applet to charge, click it and the windows will open. Thx!

Interesting place  Undecided

I can't read it, but the first word at the top of the window... click it.
A drop down appears.  Click the last word.  It will close.

Like I said I can't read it.  But the graphic ads nearly got me a divorce when my wife saw it.

Thanks for  the warning.

Thank you all for the answers... Yeah I know the ads are a little too sexy for any wife to see... LoL... Sorry!
Yes I know, the first window to appear you can go to Lugares -> Salir (it means Places -> Exit) and the window closes... but the real problem is this one...
when that first window appears (those are the chat rooms) you choose one and click on the Button "Entrar en la Sala" (meaning Enter Chat Room) and another window will appear... that's the chat room. There you can click on Sala -> Cerrar (meaning Room -> Close) in th upper part of the window and it closes... the real problem is when you click on any person participating in the chat room (in the left part of the window). When you click somebody a private conversation window appears, but no options appear in the upper part of the window like in the others... so when I click on the X button to close it, it doesn't close. And Alt + F4 doesn't work on those windows.
Can it be a problem with Java configuration? or what do you say?  Huh

Well, all I can do is verify the problem. Private chat windows will not close. Neither does it look like they will send any messages. I can type in something, but hitting Enter does nothing. Maybe just as well, I would not understand anything anyway Wink

Slight differences in the Linux implementation of the Java VM, maybe. Or the browser plugin. Might be a bug.

I tested it as well.  I started with java 1.5.x.
In Opera, text fields would not take focus (i.e. could not type anything anywhere). Couldn't even enter a chatroom.
In SeaMonkey, text fields took focus normally.  I entered a chat room and tested private chat and, as nightflier said, hitting 'enter' did nothing.  Had to kill SM to exit.
Did not test Firefox.

I updated Opera and Java (1.9.24 and 1.6.0_03, respectively) and retried.
In Opera, text fields took focus normally.  I entered a chatroom and tested private chat and but 'enter' would not work.  Had to kill O to exit.
In SeaMonkey, text fields took focus normally.  I entered a chatroom and tested private chat and this time 'enter' worked correctly sending the message.  However, I still had to kill SM to exit.
In Firefox, exact same as SeaMonkey but response time was much better/quicker

SeaMonkey and Firefox are 1.1.4 and 2.0.0.6, respectively

The chat rooms are, at least, usable but it's a paint that you cannot close a private chat window.  I'm guessing that it falls on poor java coding - but it just a GUESS so no flames please Cheesy

Updated firefox to 2.0.0.11 (as root in firefox): Results were not good.  Mouse clicks were not registered correctly; they would occasionally work.  In private chat, 'enter' did not work.  Still had to kill FF to exit.

Am going to update seamonkey and see the results....

edit:
Updated seamonkey to 1.1.7: Results are the same as firefox 20011.  hmmm...

edit2:
updated firefox from gslapt, same 20011 version: back to good response and 'enter' works in private chat.  Same goes for seamonkey (good response and 'enter' works in private chat).
