I though I installed Gnome. In gslapt I installed gnome common and gnome desktop but there is no option under system from the login screen. What am I missing?

In the console try xwmconfig
see if there is a gnome option.

boilertech, you need to install the "gnomemeta" package.
That will install of the necessary gnome components (a lot of them by the way!).

When I fire up Gslapt and mark gnomemeta for installation I get this error.
Quote
Excluding gnomemeta due to dependency error gnomemeta: Depends: scrollkeeper >= 0.3.14
So.....It does not allow me to install. I searched for scrollkeeper but it is not there.

looks like you need to enable the testing repository to get that package.  While you're at it you should enable, patches and extra as well.  Also, there's 'unstable' but I wouldn't enable for all purposes - only when there's something in there you're will to beta-test.

boilertech, open GSlapt, and then add this link as a repo source:

Code:
ftp://ftp.osuosl.org/pub/vectorlinux/veclinux-5.8/testing/

Then refresh the package list and give it a try Smiley

Scrollkeeper is there: http://vectorlinux.osuosl.org/veclinux-5.8/testing/libs/scrollkeeper-0.3.14-i586-4vl58.tlz
Go to Gslapt > Edit > Preferences > Sources, and find a line like 'http://vectorlinux.osuosl.org/veclinux-5.8/testing' and enable it. Other way is opening as root the /etc/slapt-get/slapt-getrc file, and add this: SOURCE=http://vectorlinux.osuosl.org/veclinux-5.8/testing/
Save and click in 'Update' at Gslapt, or run slapt-get --update from the command line.

EDIT: easuter beat me, I hate that red warning, makes me feel I lost precious seconds Cheesy
